Monthly Picks October
From everything I bought and tried this month, these are my favorite picks.
Hola!
So this month I think I went over my budget a little bit, but all my findings are 100% worth it! So without further introduction, here are my favorite things October Edition.
Simple Modern Tumbler
Have you seen those Tiktoks about girls with their huge Stanley Tumblers (40oz)? Well, the visual is real! Every time I carry around my tumbler my husband says: “are you taking your big cup? You love it, right?” And Yes! I do love it.
I always struggled with my daily water intake. It is not that I don’t like water. It’s that I forget to drink it if it’s not beside me. So I bought a plastic bottle first (from Temu, please avoid that app) and it was bad! It caught a bad smell pretty fast, and the color and numbers began fading after a couple of weeks. I should have known better…
So for the next try, I decided to do my research. The Stanley Tumbler starts at $60 and can go up to over $100 for the 40oz capacity. It was such a huge leap from my cheap plastic bottle that I hesitated. But then I saw Anna Mae Groves doing a comparison of the Stanley with the Simple Modern version, and the last one kept drinks cold for longer. And it was $40, so it was cheaper and better. So I decided to buy it.
So to describe it, it is made of insulated stainless steel so it is a little heavy but also sturdy. I already dropped it a couple of times (I am clumsy, yes), and nothing happened. It comes in many colors and includes two straws in the package. I use mine exclusively for water, so I haven’t tried it with hot liquids. However, for cold water, it works very well and keeps the water cold all day long or overnight. I am sure I have at least tripled my water intake now, and I certainly carry this one everywhere. Its shape allows it to fit in the car holder, and I even took it on a hike in Deep Cove. It’s all-terrain for me, and I 100% recommend it.
Oh! and it is dishwasher safe too ;)
Nixit
Now that I am approaching my perimenopause era, my periods are becoming more irregular. My Apple watch says my period is coming in the next 7 days, but my body has its own plans, and it is mostly earlier than that! I’ve been having almost two cycles in one month. Fun!
I stopped wearing tampons a few years ago, and with pads, I feel like I am wearing a diaper all the time, besides the amount of waste they create. So I’ve been wanting to try a menstrual cup for a while, but the idea left me with many doubts because of suction, capacity, messiness, etc.
So when I saw on
’s Instagram that she was using the Nixit cup I decided to give it a try. First of all, it is not a cup, it’s a disc, and that makes a huge difference because it doesn't use suction to stay in place! When you insert it, it sits below the cervix and locks behind the pubic bone. I also thought, “were is that?” the first time I read about it, but you will find the exact position almost instantly. Additionally, it’s bigger than a regular cup, so I don’t have to worry about capacity. I have 2 cycles using it, and it made such a difference! I already feel like an expert at inserting and removing it. It is made of 100% medical-grade silicone so it’s safe and very flexible. If you want to try a menstrual cup or disc and you can get your hands on a Nixit Cup I highly recommend it! Echo Dot
I might be very, very, VERY late to the Alexa and Echo games. But even though I am a late adopter, I know I am not alone and a lot of you may not have one of these at home. This month Amazon had their Prime Days so I took advantage of the discount and got myself an Echo Dot.
I didn’t understand the utility of the gadget. It is a speaker… I already have one. It gives you time and weather… I already have Siri. I found a con to every pro, but the deal was so good that I said “ok, I’ll buy it and if don’t find it useful I will return it. Well let me tell you Alexa arrived at my home to stay.
Alexa’s response is way faster than Siri’s and she is capable of doing a lot more than the later. She gives me the news every morning, she can do a song-guessing game for us, identify each member of the family’s voice, and if you buy intelligent gadgets like bulbs, plugs, etc she can control them with your voice.
The benefit I see in doing all that through Alexa instead of searching myself on my smartphone or laptop is time savings! Every time I need to look for the weather or news in my phone I end up procrastinating and searching for other things I don’t need. Besides that, I need to look for my phone first. Having the answers right away while I am cooking, working or playing with my dog is a game changer. I have a Fire TV and it automatically connects with Alexa so she turns on The Office every time I ask without the need of looking for the remote. I find all those things pretty useful and fun, so it was worth my investment!
I think making daily chores fun in some way or another is important. It makes me enjoy them more. Let me know if you have an Alexa and how you use her! I bet I can learn a lot.
See you next week!
